Often times women will ask to have the wetline of their eyes tattooed. A woman will wear eyeliner pencil or gel on their wetline daily and want this same look with their permanent makeup. For health and medical reasons, this is not a good idea.

The Meibomian glands along the wetline, which is the tissue that bumps up against the eyeball on both the upper and lower lids, keep the eye moist. The Meibomian glands that are interspersed along the lash line on both the upper and lower lid secrete an oily film that coats this tissue, keeping your eyes lubricated and the eyeball moving smoothly and comfortably within your eye socket.

Overworking this area with permanent eyeliner can result in scarring and damage to the Meibomian gland orifices (openings) and result in a chronic dry eye situation. So, if you want to wear that dramatic look of liner on your wet line, consider just an occasional eyeliner pencil on it for that special occasion. For daily wear, it is best to keep this area unobstructed so that it can perform its job, keeping your eye moist and comfortable.
